Sylvan Learning of Longview

Sylvan Learning of Longview offers K-12 tutoring in math, reading and writing, plus homework help and online sessions, from an office on West Loop 281. Test prep covers the SAT, ACT, STAAR, GRE, GED and ASVAB, along with study skills courses, and students are placed using Sylvan's Insight Assessment. What stands out on the roster is tenure. Center Director Carol W. Pope is a former high school counselor with a Baylor education degree and two master's degrees from Amberton University. Director of Education Marla Sullivan is a retired teacher and administrator with 30 years in public education. Several tutors bring 20 to 50 years of classroom experience, and several have been with this center for 10 to 20 years. The center says it selects tutors who know local curriculum and can connect lessons to what is being taught in Longview schools, and it runs a high school internship program drawing students from Longview High School and ETBU. A satellite location operates in Mount Pleasant.
