Gregg County Genealogical Society

The Gregg County Genealogical Society is a group of family-history and local-history researchers who meet at the Longview Public Library, 222 West Cotton Street. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of most months at 4:45 p.m., they are free, and they are listed on the City of Longview's public calendar alongside the library's other programming. The library's genealogy and local history department gives the society a real workbench: microfilm census records for Texas and many southern states, city directories, cemetery records, vital statistics and other archival material. Meetings are a place to compare notes on research dead ends, Gregg County records and East Texas ancestry with people who have hit the same walls. Newcomers are welcome, and the library's genealogy librarian can answer questions about meeting details or help locate materials during business hours. If you have been meaning to sort out that one stubborn branch of the family tree, this is the local room to walk into.
