Caring & Sharing Center

Caring & Sharing Center is a Christian benevolence ministry on South Mobberly Avenue providing food, clothing and household items at no cost to families and individuals in need. Getting help is simple: walk in during open hours, Monday or Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The clothing room closes at 12:45 and food remains available until 1:00. A client interview is part of intake. The center started in 1989 as a small ministry with a handful of volunteers from Pine Tree Church of Christ, serving about 100 clients out of a small downtown location, with Alpine Church of Christ joining soon after. Supporting congregations now include Churches of Christ in Hallsville, Longview, Cotton Street, West Mountain and Rollins Addition, and the center says it has served thousands of households across Gregg County in its 30-plus years. It is a partner agency of the East Texas Food Bank and Feeding America. Material and monetary donations are accepted Monday or Thursday from 9:00 to 12:30, though the center cannot take large items like furniture, mattresses or televisions and does not pick up or deliver. Volunteers are welcome — just come by during open hours. Every day starts with a devotional and prayer, and the ministry serves people regardless of race, age, sex, national origin, color or disability.
